Kerbal Star Systems Wiki

Kormin is a brown dwarf star, and the second closest 'star' to Kerbol.

In-game Description[]

"Not all stars are born equal, and some never quite grow large enough to become stars at all. Kormin is one of those celestial bodies that are more massive than the largest gas giants, but smaller than the smallest stars: a brown dwarf. Although Kormin does not have enough mass to allow for sustained fusion, significant radioactive decay in the core of the brown dwarf allows it to glow and emit heat. The Kormin System was the last major system to be discovered, as it is too dim to be seen with kerbal eyes and unable to be detected by most telescopes."

Physical Characteristics[]

Kormin is a T-class brown dwarf with a mass too low to maintain hydrogen fusion within its core. However, significant amounts of radioactive material, as well as slow rates of deuterium-tritium fusion in the core of the brown dwarf allows Kormin to radiate heat and light.

It is believed that in a few million years Kormin's deuterium-tritium reactions will trickle to a halt as the fuel runs out, cooling down until it becomes a cooler T or Y type brown dwarf and stops glowing.

It is home to three moons/planets in its vicinity; Ves, a small dwarf planet, Tide, a carbon planet with life and Nae a small frozen carbon planet.
